Happy Chotrul Duchen!

Buddha-Ponlop-Statue-Head-WEBThis month Nalandabodhi engages in joyful celebration of Chotrul Duchen, the second Buddhist holiday that occurs in what is known as the “month of miracles.”

Chotrul Duchen celebrates Buddha Shakyamuni’s display of 15 days of miracles. It is said that the Buddha displayed a different miracle each day to spur devotion and to increase the merit of his current and future disciples.

As students of Buddhism in the 21st century, Chotrul Duchen gives us a joyful opportunity to appreciate Buddha Shakyamuni. It is a celebration of wisdom and kindness beyond measure.

If not for the Buddha’s kindness in sharing these teachings, the wisdom that all students of Buddhism study, meditate on, and practice in our daily mindful activity, would still be hidden from us.

Without access to the Buddha’s precious wisdom teachings, the path to awakening — the path to fully understanding our mind and its world, would be no more than a dream. We might wish we could experience equal compassion for all beings, but we wouldn’t have the means to attain it.

So today and throughout this month, we joyfully remember beloved Buddha Shakyamuni, whose wisdom lives on in the minds and hearts of our kind teachers, and in all practitioners wishing to discover their genuine heart of compassion.

With love and appreciation, we wish you a very happy Chotrul Duchen.
