The 17th Karmapa teaches meditation for the West

On April 4th, His Holiness Karmapa visited Karma Thegsum Chöling-New Jersey (KTC-NJ) in southern New Jersey. HH Karmapa taught meditation methods and practiced shamatha together with a gathering of over 700 attendees, before conferring an empowerment for Manjushri, the bodhisattva of wisdom. During this teaching, HH Karmapa emphasized the personal experience of meditation and warned about Buddhist practice being used for commercial or stress-reduction purposes.

HH Karmapa experiences student life

His Holiness Karmapa recently visited Princeton, his fourth stop on a tour of major American universities. Immersing himself in university life, HH Karmapa met with students, attended classes, and spoke on contemporary social issues from a Buddhist perspective. HH Karmapa, dubbed as the “Green Buddha,” gave a talk at the university chapel on April 1st titled, “A Buddhist Perspective: The Environment, Gender and Activism.”

His Holiness Karmapa at Stanford University

On Tuesday, March 17th, 2015, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, appeared at Stanford University’s Memorial auditorium, in the heart of California’s Silicone Valley. Through the kindness of an unnamed sponsor, this first public event of His Holiness’ 3rd US tour was attended by close to 1,600 people free of charge.
