One of the greatest contributions we can make to our world is to learn how to live in harmony with each other. In his lifetime, the Buddha was very concerned with the creation of a harmonious community, and the hundreds of monastic rules he established were created, not only to help individual monks and nuns achieve their own liberation, but also to promote nonviolent and harmonious living conditions.

Our modern Buddhist communities aren’t retreat centers or monasteries, but we can still have the same goal, if not the same rules.
