Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche gives talk at BuddhaFest LA

BuddhaFest debuts in LA

Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche will give a talk at BuddhaFest LA

Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche will be one of six well-known Buddhist teachers giving a talk at BuddhaFest LA, held on June 2-4. After seven years in Washington, DC, BuddhaFest will debut in Los Angeles at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills. As one of the leading festivals in the country to focus on mindfulness and compassion, BuddhaFest presents a unique mix of talks, films, meditation and music.

Rinpoche’s scheduled talk, “Working with the Emotional Mind: How to Change the World from Within,” will address how we can bring about positive change when everything feels unpredictable and when strong emotions — such as fear, anxiety and anger — arise in response. By showing kindness and compassion to ourselves, Rinpoche says, we transform our emotional landscape and free ourselves to extend that kindness to others. By working directly with our own emotional mind, we are able to become a force for genuine positive change in the world.

In addition to the talks, the two-day event this year will include, among other concerts, a rare appearance by internationally-acclaimed Buddhist nun and singer Ani Choying Drolma. BuddhaFest LA will also host the 2017 International Buddhist Film Festival, featuring filmmakers, special guests, tributes and film premieres, including the U.S. premiere of Khyentse Norbu’s new film, Hema Hema: Sing Me a Song While I Wait; and the Los Angeles premiere of Mickey Lemle’s new documentary, The Last Dalai Lama? The event will open with a tribute to the late Leonard Cohen, with special guest Pico Iyer.

“This might be the best program we’ve ever put together,” Eric Forbis, co-founder and director of BuddhaFest, said. “There is no other festival anywhere quite like it.”
