Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche Teaches on Mind, Happiness and Suffering in NYC

Ponlop Rinpoche, our founder and beloved teacher, is touring the Eastern US. Teaching at Tibet House in New York City on May 11, Rinpoche spoke about how the mind determines whether we meet our experiences with irritability or joy:

“Happiness and suffering, joy and pain, are dependent on whether our mind is tame or not. When our mind is tame, then we have more capacity to relate with our world and experiences with a sense of gentleness, a sense of calmness, and some element of wisdom. And once we have that, we naturally experience more joy and happiness.

At the same time, when our mind is not tame, then anything we experience becomes more irritating . . . . When our mind is more agitated and there’s no sense of calm ground, gentle breeze, then there are more conditions for our mind to cause suffering, either for ourselves or others. Happiness is a creation of our own mind. Outer conditions play a certain role. But the real condition is our mind. If our mind is tame, nothing can actually cause us such pain.”

Rinpoche will be teaching in Connecticut at St. Thomas Seminary this weekend. +Register for the teaching
