HH Karmapa experiences student life

His Holiness Karmapa recently visited Princeton, his fourth stop on a tour of major American universities. Immersing himself in university life, HH Karmapa met with students, attended classes, and spoke on contemporary social issues from a Buddhist perspective. HH Karmapa, dubbed as the “Green Buddha,” gave a talk at the university chapel on April 1st titled, “A Buddhist Perspective: The Environment, Gender and Activism.” During his talk, HH Karmapa described the motivation behind his third visit to the United States:

“My particular reason for this visit to the United States is a desire that I have had for some time to see the great universities of this country. This desire was born in me from my encounters with American university students in India which gave me a strong wish to at least gain a glimpse of their experience and hopefully, by gaining that glimpse, to widen my own outlook.”

“After stopping in on the spiritual open mic night in the basement of Princeton’s Murray Dodge Hall last night, His Holiness the Karmapa spent an additional two days eating with students in campus dining halls, sitting in on classes on climate change and sculpture and interacting with groups of students and faculty around several issues dear to his heart: the environment, gender, activism and art.” Read the full article
