It is with heavy hearts that we are announcing the loss of our Nalandabodhi Board Member, beloved sangha sister, skilled leader, and devoted practitioner: Damayonti Sengupta.
About two years ago Damayonti courageously shared the news of her terminal medical condition with our international sangha and this Tuesday, January 26th, in the presence of family and sangha friends, she peacefully passed away.
Damayonti will be remembered for her infectious laughter, her limitless kindness, and her boundless joy. Her vast beneficial activities speak to her wisdom and skillfulness as a leader. From Seattle Sangha Director to Manager of Nalanda West to Nalandabodhi International’s first Chief Operating Officer, her dedication to Buddhist and wider community engagement was constant and inspiring. She will be deeply missed.
Damayonti supported the enlightened activities of many great teachers and masters of our lineage. She served on the board of Nalandabodhi International, as well as the board of Karmapa Center 16. She worked closely on the stupa of His Holiness the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa in the Zion, Illinois area with Dilyak Drupon Rinpoche and supported several visits of His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa to the United States. As Nalandabodhi International’s first Chief Operating Officer, she worked tirelessly to support the vision of our founder Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, who shared his prayers and aspirations for Damayonti with our sangha:
“According to the wisdom of the Buddha, the end of one life is also the beginning of another one. So as this new journey begins, we all – our sangha, the teachers, and I – will continue to support her through this phase with our prayers. With the blessings of the wisdom and compassion of all the Buddhas and bodhisattvas, may her journey be smooth and may she find the joyous infinite light of awakening.”
For those who wish to practice for Damayonti, it is suggested that you recite the Heart Sutra followed by any type of nature-of-mind meditation practice.
