A rare opportunity to hear from a renowned master painter of Tibetan thangkas (scroll paintings).

“The scroll painting (thangkas) of Tibet is entirely based on the spirituality of Buddhism. Its main stylistic sources are the iconographical art of India mixed with strong influences from China and Persia. Used mainly by practitioners as a means to refine meditative visualization, they are displayed over shrines and serve as a reminder of the guru’s presence. They are also displayed for special gatherings and celebrations.”

On Friday November 7, 2014 one of the few remaining masters of the Karma Gardri school of Tibetan Buddhist thangka painting, R.D. On Saturday, November 8, Salga will demonstrate each step that goes into creating a thangka painting, followed by a panel discussion in the afternoon, with a reception for the artist and exhibition of the artist’s works in the evening.

+learn more about this NalandaWest program

About R.D.
