Tijdens zijn recente bezoek aan New York City, ontmoette Zijne Heiligheid Karmapa de Tibetaanse gemeenschap in New York<\/a>, bezocht de Rubin Museum of Art<\/a>, bekeken a moderne Tibetaanse kunst tentoonstelling<\/a>, en woonde een po\u00ebzielezing bij in de Lhatse-bibliotheek<\/a>. Op zijn laatste avond in Manhattan op 14 april gaf HH Karmapa een lering over "Toetreden tot het hart en de geest".<\/em><\/p>

In zijn laatste evenement in New York City voor deze reis, heeft Zijne Heiligheid de Karmapa geleerd over de belangrijkste kwestie van hoe we echte verbindingen maken tussen de emoties van ons hart en de abstracties van onze geest. Het avondevenement werd georganiseerd door de Karmapa Foundation en vond plaats in de New York Society for Ethical Culture, wiens missie nauw aansluit bij de Karmapa's in een verbintenis tot ethische relaties met anderen, sociale rechtvaardigheid en rentmeesterschap van het milieu. Met zijn stijgende bogen en warme houten interieur heeft de hal van het Genootschap een ruimtelijk en toch intiem gevoel.<\/p>

De Karmapa werd ge\u00efntroduceerd door Daniel Goleman, de wetenschapsschrijver die beroemd is geworden door het ontwikkelen van de term 'emotionele intelligentie' en alles wat het inhoudt. Hij merkte op hoe belangrijk het is dat de Karmapa ontmoeting heeft met universiteitsstudenten, "omdat dit de mensen van de 21ste eeuw zijn die de toekomst vorm zullen geven, en hopelijk zal het de meedogende wereld zijn die we vanavond zullen horen." Goleman maakte ook van de gelegenheid gebruik om de regering van India te bedanken voor haar steun bij het toestaan van de Karmapa om deze reis te maken en sprak de hoop uit dat de Karmapa voor nog veel meer bezoeken zou terugkeren.
