On the auspicious occasion of Lhabab D\u00fcchen, Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche<\/a> officially opened the doors of Nalandabodhi Taichung\u2019s<\/a> new temple, Namkha \u00d6sal. After expressing his appreciation to Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, Dilyak Drupon Rinpoche<\/span><\/a>, Drupon Dechen Rinpoche, all lamas, acharyas, monastic sangha and dharma friends, Acharya Jampa briefly shared about the history behind establishing Namkha \u00d6sal.<\/p>

Acharya shared that he never thought about doing something like this ten years ago. Yet, with the aspiration to offer a firmly established dharma center in Taichung under the guidance of Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, a plot of land was bought almost five years ago. With a pure intention, many people have been working hard to make this new building a reality. While the building may be small, it is easily accessible and constructed with compassion so everyone can feel welcome to practice the dharma together.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Significance of the Construction and Style<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\tOn behalf of Kris Yao, KRIS YAO | ARTECH<\/a> en Studiobase Architects<\/a>, Naiwen Cheng shared it was an honor to work on this building. A lot of care and attention went into every detail. There is a meaning behind every aspect, including the form, the materials, the glass, the stairs, the concrete – everything.\u00a0\n\nThe main idea was to make it a simple and bright place. During the daytime, the light indoors is smooth and subtle. In the evening, it is like a lamp. In this way, Naiwen Cheng said, it represents the compassion and activities of Avalokite\u015bvara and the intention for Namkha \u00d6sal to guide sentient beings on the path of liberation.\u00a0\n\nAnother highlight of the building is the thousand Buddha statues\u2019 wall. Along the outer staircase, over one thousand little boxes have been carved out of rock that itself remains unpolished. The latter symbolizes our confused state of mind, while the buddhas point us to the buddha nature that we all have inside.\u00a0\n\nNaiwen Cheng expressed her wish and prayer that by creating the building in this way, it will support the activities of Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, Nalandabodhi Taichung<\/a>, and be of benefit to everyone. \t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The name \u201cNamkha \u00d6sal\u201d<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\tThe meaning of the name Namkha \u00d6sal (Tibetan: \u0f53\u0f58\u0f0b\u0f58\u0f41\u0f60\u0f0b\u0f60\u0f7c\u0f51\u0f0b\u0f42\u0f66\u0f63\u0f0d), Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche taught, is twofold. First, \u201cNamkha\u201d means \u201cspace.\u201d Since space is open and empty in nature, it can accommodate anything. We also need this spacious quality in our minds so we can learn and gain new qualities. Therefore, Rinpoche expressed his heartfelt aspiration for this dharma center to serve as a cause for beings to connect with this spacious quality and open their hearts.\u00a0\n\nSecondly, \u201c\u00d6sal\u201d (Tibetan: \u0f60\u0f7c\u0f51\u0f0b\u0f42\u0f66\u0f63\u0f0d) means \u201cluminosity.\u201d Rinpoche pointed out that \u201cif we take a look at this spacious, open mind of ours, we\u2019ll see it is bright and luminous.\u201d To see this luminous quality, we need to kindle the lamp of wisdom. Therefore, Rinpoche added to his heartfelt aspiration for this place to raise the lamp of praj\u00f1a and dispel the ignorance of ourselves and all sentient beings.\u00a0\n\nFurthermore, there is a historical figure called Namkha \u00d6sal. He was a great meditator, living in the 1600s in Tibet. While he also practiced Mah\u0101mudr\u0101, he is widely renowned as an accomplished yogi of the Dzogchen tradition.\u00a0\n\nIn various historical life stories of Namkha \u00d6sal, we can see that he is considered both an emanation of Repa Shiwa \u00d6 (12th century and one of the heart sons of Milarepa) and Melong Dorje (13th century, lineage holder of the Vima Nyingthik). Thus, the blessings of the gurus of both Mah\u0101mudr\u0101 and Dzogchen are present and he became, retrospectively, the first Ponlop<\/a>. Making this auspicious connection is another reason for giving Nalandabodhi Taichung\u2019s new temple the name Namkha \u00d6sal. \t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\tDzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche ended with an expression of gratitude to everyone who supported the establishment of Namkha \u00d6sal. In Tibetan the term \u0f42\u0f59\u0f74\u0f42\u0f0b\u0f63\u0f42\u0f0b\u0f41\u0f44\u0f0b\u0f0d is connected to it as a way to express this place is like a crown jewel placed in the hands by the learned was in the hands of those learning so they can practice and train in the enlightened qualities of all the buddhas and bodhisattvas.
