Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, Dilyak Drupon Rinpoche, and the Nalandabodhi International Sangha wish you a happy, healthy, and prosperous year of the Water Rabbit, 2023! Happy Losar!

Water Rabbit Year and spiritual practice

In Tibetan Buddhist tradition there are many connections between spiritual practice and the calendar. Acharya Lama Tenpa Gyaltsen and Mitra Dean Tyler offered the following guidance for this new Female Water Rabbit Year.

Acharya Lama Tenpa Gyaltsen shared that this new Female Water-Rabbit Year is a wonderful opportunity to practice our heart of bodhicitta. Appreciating our life, the people around us, and all elements supporting our path. With appreciation as our ground, we can welcome the new year with love for each other.

Mitra Dean Tyler pointed out how the three aspects of this new year – Female, Water and Rabbit – have a quality of calmness, flexibility and flow, offering auspicious circumstances to facilitate uplifting changes and engage in meaningful activities if we apply joyful diligence, ultimately to recognize the changeless true nature of our mind.

Want to learn more about the meaning of the various aspects of a year, a month and days? Every year Nalandabodhi and Nitartha International publish a Tibetan New Year Calendar we can consult as guidance for everything we do in our daily life and following in the footsteps of the Buddha.

In this new year of the female water rabbit, may uplifting change arise!

In the practice of the four immeasurables, we train to extend our attention beyond ourselves and our habitual, conditioned thoughts. They help us to open a place for others in our mind and, beyond this, to see others as the same as ourselves.”
