Martin Wittmann - Nalandabodhi International

Martin Wittmann

Information Technology Systems (ITS) Officer

Martin is a first-generation American of ethnic German parents, born in Cleveland and raised nominally Catholic near Pittsburgh. He underwent culture shock as a chemical engineering undergraduate at Georgia Tech, becoming a born-again Christian as a curious kind of coping mechanism. During difficult graduate student years in New Jersey, he abandoned both chemical engineering and Christianity.

Also during graduate school Martin married one of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche’s students and developed an appreciation for her Buddhist path. He eventually tried meditation himself to cope with the difficulties of their parting. In 2011, Ken McLeod’s Wake Up To Your Life inspired him to find a sangha with strong support for practice. Martin was thrilled to discover Nalandabodhi Connecticut close by. Through kindness and good fortune, he met Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche on the 2013 pilgrimage to Burma and Sri Lanka and quickly became Rinpoche’s student.

Over the years Martin has worn many hats as a software developer and IT administrator. Within Nalandabodhi he has served as the Connecticut sangha’s finance coordinator, communications coordinator, and co-director. He has organized retreats and has helped with numerous Nalandabodhi IT projects. Martin is eager to provide IT tools and solutions that fit the needs of the worldwide Nalandabodhi community.
