Thank you for your interest in Nalandabodhi’s Losar practices and celebration for the year of the Wood Snake, 2025!
Every year at Losar, the Nalandabodhi community comes together to practice the dharma, make offerings and aspirations, renew our bonds of fellowship, and celebrate the new year together. We are delighted to announce that Dzgochen Ponlop Rinpoche will join us for the Losar celebrations.
We traditionally begin our celebration of the new year transition with Mahakala protector practices led by our acharyas and lamas. Everyone is invited to listen, either onsite at Nalanda West or online, to these pre-Losar practices and pujas, which will be held in Tibetan beginning Monday, February 24 – Friday, February 28. Mitra Dean Tyler has kindly provided suggestions for how to meditate during the sessions. Please find that information on our Resource page after you register.
By registering here, you will receive access to all the Losar practices.
Our main Losar celebration will be held at Nalanda West on Saturday, March 1. The day will begin with a smoke puja—a purification and accumulation of merit and wisdom practice—followed by our Losar liturgy practice and Losar address given by Rinpoche. The morning will conclude with a brunch and social gathering.
All events will be held in English with translation in Chinese, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish. Recordings of the Losar address will be made available after the event.
The auspicious attributes of the Wood Snake are linked to wisdom, intuition, and mystery. The snake is also known for its sharp intelligence and charm, while the wood element promotes expansion and renewal, creativity, and adaptability. Blended together, along with careful planning, the Wood Snake year supports new beginnings, personal growth, and creative endeavors.
Please join us to celebrate the dawning of a new lunar year, the year of the Wood Snake! Tashi Delek!
While these practices are offered freely, there is a kind and generous tradition of the sangha and community supporting the activities of the acharyas and lamas during pujas. Please consider making an offering to our acharyas, lamas, and sangha here.
If you experience any challenges while booking, please email help@nalandabodhi.org for assistance.
