Dear Nalandabodhi Sangha and Friends,
Please join us for seven Wednesdays (i.e. 49 days) of Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara) Sadhana and Sukhavati Aspiration practices, starting Wednesday morning June 10 through to July 22.
Practice time 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM Pacific, weekly.
These practices are dedicated to:
- Leona Hwang, a long-time member of NB Vancouver and devoted student of DPR’s for 10 years (died June 4)
- Sherab Lhamo, Lama Tenam’s mother (died June 4)
- Sonam Chokyi, Acharya Lhakpa’s niece (died May 23)
- Dale Krueger, son of long-time NB Vancouver member, Taylore (died May 29)
Leona’s sister, Christine Hwang, has requested Lama Rabten to lead the first three weeks/Wednesdays of prayers and aspirations. The following four weeks will be led in English by Mitra Tyler on July 1st and July 22nd. The other dates will be led by other senior practitioners.
As is taught in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the first three weeks following the death of an individual are more strongly emphasized in terms of dedicating oneself to practices for the deceased. For many years, Leona was a devoted Chenrezig (Avalokiteshvara) sadhana practitioner, which was recited in Tibetan, led by Lama Rabten. She also studied the Tibetan language for many years. Because of this deep connection to both the practice and the language, Christine has requested Lama Rabten to begin the seven weeks/49 days of practice by leading us in the Sadhana of Chenrezig and Sukhavati Aspirations in Tibetan.
Also, because Sherab Lhamo and Sonam Chokyi were Tibetan speakers, as are their family members, practicing Chenrezig and reciting Sukhavati Aspirations in Tibetan will have a more close-connected impact.
Liturgies will be screen shared.
