The passing of Honorable Karma Dhondup, father of His Holiness the 17th Karmapa
Nalandabodhi learned the somber news that Honorable Karma Dhondup, the father of His Holiness 17th Karmapa, passed away on 23 May 2024. Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche shared the news that day with the sangha who gathered to observe Saga Dawa Düchen.Rinpoche expressed sadness regarding Honorable Karma Dhondup’s passing, and also pointed out the sacredness of his having passed on the anniversary of the Buddha’s parinirvana; Rinpoche indicated that this is surely a sign of the high character and merit of His Holiness’s father. In observation of the passing of Honorable Karma Dhondup, Rinpoche and the lamas began offering the Vajrasattva Sadhana Puja and prayers right upon hearing the sad news. The wider Nalandabodhi sangha will gather together for prayers in the coming days.
