What is forever the cause of happiness? That we all seek happiness and wish to avoid suffering seems clear. However, are we really aware of the cause of happiness? Our Retreat Centre MRC is hosting Acharya Lama Tenpa Gyaltsen in their 3rd Annual Open Retreat. He will teach and guide us in how to discover the Heart of Awakening, the wish to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all beings, in Buddhism known as Bodhicitta. All wisdom traditions, including Buddhism, say that the antidote to fear is loving-kindness. In Vajrayana Buddhism, the figure of Tara symbolises loving-kindness and compassion — and a strong resolve to dispel the fears of all beings. She is like the mother of the Buddhas—the feminine divine. At the same time, the Tara-principle is something we all have: buddha-nature.

How to call upon Tara? How to ask for her guidance? And, ultimately, how to recognise the buddha-nature within ourselves?

We joyfully announce the seventh annual Tara Drupchen to be held by the Nalandabodhi International sangha: September 23th – 25th. This weekend’s practice intensive includes sadhana or ritual practice, meditations, and teachings from Nalandabodhi teachers. Hosted by Nalandabodhi Seattle, Acharya Lama Tenpa Gyaltsen will continue his teachings on Progressive Stages of Meditation on Emptiness by discussing the Mind Only and Madhyamaka teachings on emptiness and present a means to realise these views through a series of meditation practices.

How to integrate wisdom and compassion in our lives? The essence of emptiness (wisdom) and compassion are also known as the Two Truths: Relative Bodhicitta and Absolute Bodhicitta. These Two are likened to having two wings, without which a bird cannot fly through space. Hosted by Nalandabodhi Montreal, Lama Rabten will teach on the meaning of these two essential practices.

The equinox, like the solstice, is a moment of change in the annual cycle. As instructed in The Aspiration Prayer of Samantabhadra prayer, this change “at the solstices or at the turn of the year” is a moment for reflection and practice.
